MALTA RESIDENCY AND VISA PROGRAMM

The Malta Residence and Visa Programme (MRVP) was launched in 2015. It provides successful applicants with the right of permanent residence in Malta or indefinite leave of stay, subject to an ongoing fulfilment of the relevant requirements.

MRVP provides international investors with residency rights. These rights will apply only for non-EU / EEA / Swiss Nationals. The programme has no minimum or maximum stay requirement

BENEFITS OF MRVP

The beneficiary and their respective dependents would be entitled to:

  • Reside indefinitely in Malta;

  • Visa-free travel throughout the Schengen Area.

  • Access to top-tier British Education System.

  • Access to 5th best Healthcare System (WHO ranking).

  • A Beneficiary may also qualify for the status of long term residence where the requirements in terms of the Long Term Residence regulations are subsequently met.

INVESTMENT REQUIRMENT

  • An investment of €250,000 in qualifying investments as may be periodically determined by Identity Malta (e.g. Government bonds, which can be done through financing options )
  • A qualifying property. Buy property worth minimum €320,000 for a property situated in the North of Malta or €270,000 for a property situated in Gozo or the South of Malta; or Rent a property worth minimum €12,000 per annum for a property situated in the North of Malta or €10,000 for a property situated in Gozo or in the South of Malta
  • €30,000 one time Government Contribution
  • Economically stable, i.e. must have an annual income of at least €100,000 per annum, arising outside Malta, or be in possession of capital of not less than €500,000
  • Is not a national of Malta or any other EU/EEA state
  • Holds a comprehensive health insurance covering himself and all dependants for all risks across the whole of the EU
  • Is in good health and not suffering from any contagious disease
  • Is of good character

MALTA INDIVIDUAL INVESTOR PROGRAMME (IIP)

The Malta Citizenship Individual Investor Programme (IIP) was introduced by the Government of Malta by virtue of Legal Notice 47 of 2014, paving the way
for a new vein of foreign direct investment into the economic and social development of the country.

MRVP provides international investors with residency rights. These rights will apply only for non-EU / EEA / Swiss Nationals. The programme has no minimum or maximum stay requirement

              Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for Maltese citizenship under the Individual Investor Programme of the Republic of Malta, main applicants must:

  • make a contribution of €650,000 to the Maltese Government, which is deposited in the National Development and Social Fund (NDSF);
  • lease a property for a minimum value of €16,000 per annum, or purchase a property for a minimum value of €350,000  in Malta.
  • acquire €150,000 worth of stocks, bonds, debentures, special purpose vehicles or other investment vehicles as may be identified from time to time by MIIPA.

Applications may also include any of the following dependants:

  • the spouse of the main applicant through a monogamous marriage or civil union, or a de facto partner, or a person with whom a relationship is held through a status which is the same as or similar to marriage;
  • a child, including an adopted child, of the main applicant, or of the spouse of the main applicant, who is less than 18 years of age;
  • a child of the main applicant, or of the spouse of the main applicant, who is between 18 and 26 years of age, who is not married, and who proves that he/she is wholly maintained or supported by the main applicant;
  • a parent or grandparent of the main applicant, or of the spouse of the main applicant, who is over 55 years of age, who proves that he/she is wholly maintained or supported by the main applicant, and forms part of the household of the main applicant;
  • a child of the main applicant, or of the spouse of the main applicant, who is at least 18 years of age, is physically or mentally challenged, and who is living with and is fully supported by the main applicant.

All applicants and each and every dependant must have a global health insurance coverage of at least €50,000 and must provide evidence that they can maintain it for an indefinite period.

Important Notice

The Malta Individual Investor Programme is reaching its cap.

MIIPA will continue accepting applications for citizenship under the Malta Individual Investor Programme Regulations until the 30th of September 2020.

Applications for residence under this programme will continue to be accepted until the 31st of July 2020. Those individuals who obtain a residence permit, but do not manage to submit a citizenship application by the 30th of September 2020, may be considered under new regulations that the Government is considering. By already holding, or applying for or being granted a residence permit in Malta does not automatically entitle applicants eligibility to apply for Maltese Citizenship.
