A Showcase of Maltese Excellence in Shanghai!

Base Malta just had another dynamic and productive week in Shanghai, highlighting the island’s rich culture and potential for business collaboration. Following an event celebrating Maltese heritage, food and arts, organized in collaboration with Heritage Malta, the Malta Arts Council, and Taste History, Base Malta hosted another significant event at its Shanghai headquarters in partnership with the Malta Food Agency.

This subsequent event, spearheaded by the Malta Food Agency, was part of an ambitious initiative to identify Maltese products suitable for export to niche, high-value Chinese markets. The agency’s efforts focused on understanding the Chinese consumer’s preferences and adapting Maltese products to meet these demands. Key aspects such as label suitability, taste, and other critical factors were meticulously examined to ensure these products could thrive in this large yet specific market.

The event was structured into two distinct focus groups. The first group comprised Chinese professionals from the food and beverage sector, including importers, distributors, food developers, and connoisseurs. The second group included Chinese participants from various backgrounds, providing a comprehensive view of consumer preferences. Among the products showcased were honey, jams, tomato paste (Kunserva), wines, olive oils, bread, and Maltese tuna dumplings.

The Malta Food Agency‘s dedication to promoting Maltese products and ensuring their success in international markets deserves high praise. Their strategic approach and attention to detail have significantly contributed to the growing reputation of Maltese products in China, and bodes well for future potential for exports.
